1.【址:a g 9 559⒐ v i p】1"Have you done your work?" she asked. "Dare you stay here a few minutes?"
2.But Becky was rather inclined to prefer to believe that the new neighbor was "an 'eathen." It sounded so much more romantic than that he should merely be the ordinary kind of gentleman who went to church with a prayer book. She sat and talked long that night of what he would be like, of what his wife would be like if he had one, and of what his children would be like if they had children. Sara saw that privately she could not help hoping very much that they would all be black, and would wear turbans, and, above all, that-- like their parent--they would all be "'eathens."
3."You--you are not to go in there," she said.
4.Then he went with Sara into her little sitting room and they bade each other good-by. Sara sat on his knee and held the lapels of his coat in her small hands, and looked long and hard at his face.
5.She was half laughing, but there was a touch of mysterious hope in her eyes which fascinated Ermengarde, though she had not the remotest idea what it meant, or whom it was she wanted to "catch," or why she wanted to catch her. Whatsoever she meant, Ermengarde was sure it was something delightfully exciting. So, quite thrilled with expectation, she followed her on tiptoe along the passage. They made not the least noise until they reached the door. Then Sara suddenly turned the handle, and threw it wide open. Its opening revealed the room quite neat and quiet, a fire gently burning in the grate, and a wonderful doll sitting in a chair by it, apparently reading a book.
6."To eat, miss?" she said. "Things that's good to eat?"

1."Sara!" she stammered. "Why, she's with the children in your room, of course."
2.Once on a dark winter's day, when the yellow fog hung so thick and heavy in the streets of London that the lamps were lighted and the shop windows blazed with gas as they do at night, an odd-looking little girl sat in a cab with her father and was driven rather slowly through the big thoroughfares.
3."If the child at Madame Pascal's school in Paris was the one you are in search of," he answered soothingly, "she would seem to be in the hands of people who can afford to take care of her. They adopted her because she had been the favorite companion of their little daughter who died. They had no other children, and Madame Pascal said that they were extremely well-to-do Russians."
4."Will he let me catch him?" she asked.
5."What were you thinking?" demanded Miss Minchin.
6."At any rate," answered Mr. Barrow, quite snappishly, "it would have been much better if there never had been any."

1."Will he come? Will he come?" she whispered.
2."This 'ere," she suggested, with a glance round the attic--"is it the Bastille now--or has it turned into somethin' different?"
3."What is the matter, Becky?" Sara cried. "What are you doing?"
4.She stared so hard and bit the ribbon on her pigtail so fast that she attracted the attention of Miss Minchin, who, feeling extremely cross at the moment, immediately pounced upon her.
5. Ermengarde's mouth fell open a little. She knew that it would be far from behaving like a respectable child at a select seminary to say that it had never occurred to you that you COULD love your father, that you would do anything desperate to avoid being left alone in his society for ten minutes. She was, indeed, greatly embarrassed.
6."I have been suspecting something of this sort," she exclaimed; "but I did not dream of such audacity. Lavinia was telling the truth."

应用

1."If you find the little girl, give her our love," shouted Guy Clarence, jumping up and down on the door mat.
2.Sara did not expect much, and was far too proud to try to continue to be intimate with girls who evidently felt rather awkward and uncertain about her. The fact was that Miss Minchin's pupils were a set of dull, matter-of-fact young people. They were accustomed to being rich and comfortable, and as Sara's frocks grew shorter and shabbier and queerer-looking, and it became an established fact that she wore shoes with holes in them and was sent out to buy groceries and carry them through the streets in a basket on her arm when the cook wanted them in a hurry, they felt rather as if, when they spoke to her, they were addressing an under servant.
3."That I did not know what I was doing?" Miss Minchin fairly gasped.
4、"It's taken!" she said. "It really IS taken! Oh, I do hope a nice head will look out of the attic window!"
5、Consequently Ermengarde spent the greater part of her life in disgrace or in tears. She learned things and forgot them; or, if she remembered them, she did not understand them. So it was natural that, having made Sara's acquaintance, she should sit and stare at her with profound admiration.

Miss Minchin was infuriated just as she had been before and her anger expressed itself, as before, in an intemperate fashion. She flew at her and shook her.

  • 周长玉 08-04

Sara ran to the door, opened it, and looked out and listened.

  • 吕忠梅 08-04

"He--he won't run out quickly and jump on the bed, will he?" she said.

  • 陈淳 08-04

"Well, I think it's horrid," she said. "They've no right to starve her to death."

  • 赖云峰 08-03

    {"Good-bye," said Sara.

  • 马亚杰 08-02

    "Is it the Bastille yet?" asked Ermengarde, eagerly. "Do you always pretend it is the Bastille?"}

  • 仁棣 08-02

Sara hugged her close and tried to laugh. There was a sort of comfort in the warmth of the plump, childish body. She had had a hard day and had been staring out of the windows with hot eyes.

  • 谭永宣 08-02

Sara paused a moment. Because she had been told that her mamma was in heaven, she had thought a great deal about the matter, and her thoughts had not been quite like those of other people.

     Naturally, Jessie giggled again.

{"May I have something to eat?" Sara asked rather faintly.

"You MAK up> stories!" she gasped. "Can you do that--as well as speak French? CAN you?"
