S. Korea to lift restrictions on arrivals from China's Hubei province

Interview: China shows political wisdom in face of latest U.S. anti-China salvos, says political expert

The past 41 years has not all been smooth sailing for China-U.S. relations, Yang said, noting there have been ups and downs and even major setbacks on the way. "However, the two countries have always approached their relationship from a historical perspective and with the bigger picture in mind."

While commenting on Pompeo's recent accusation about so-called "surveillance" against ethnic minorities in Xinjiang, Wang said the allegation has no factual basis at all. "It is a common international practice to use modern scientific and technological products and big data to improve social governance, and the United States is no exception.

China is always a firm defender of the international order and the international system. Since the founding of New China more than 70 years ago, the country has never started a war, or occupied an inch of land of others, Wang noted.

"This reflects the common voice and just position of the international community," Zhao said, adding that the Five Eyes can by no means represent the international community. Enditem

This year marks the 75th anniversary of the victory in the World Anti-Fascist War and the founding of the United Nations. "We must not allow the international system to be undermined arbitrarily, or the world divided again," Wang said.

To that end, diplomacy can also rely on international law and organizations such as the United Nations and the World Trade Organization (WTO) to resolve multilateral disputes, he said.

BEIJING, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- A spokesperson for the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of China's State Council said some U.S. politicians have fully exposed their hegemonic traits over the so-called sanctions against heads of Chinese central government agencies responsible for Hong Kong affairs and officials of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government.

"Our message is quite clear: We urge the United States to stop acting with arrogance and prejudice, but enter into constructive dialogue with us on an equal footing. We hope that it will work with us to ease current tensions and put the relations back onto the right track of no conflict, no confrontation, mutual respect and win-win cooperation," he said.

He believed that cultural exchange between the two countries has yielded fruitful results over the past years.
